The calculator derives joint volume from tile length and width, joint width and filled depth. Multiplying that volume by the editable mixed-grout density gives a weight per square metre, then area and allowance give the order weight.

Joint geometry determines the planning rate
Smaller tile creates more joint length per square foot. The formula combines tile length and width with filled joint width, depth and mixed-grout density, then reports the resulting pounds per square foot.
For 12 × 12 in tile, a 1/8 in wide by 5/16 in deep joint and a 13.35 lb/gal material factor gives about 0.054 lb/ft² before allowance.
