Paver Calculator
Paving units and packs from usable coverage.
How it works
Subtract openings, add the allowance, divide by one unit's effective area, then round up to whole units and packs. This estimates quantities by area; it does not optimize the cutting layout.

How the Paver Calculator works
Use this paver calculator to estimate paving units and full packs for a patio or walkway. Enter effective unit coverage and check whether the supplier includes joints in its published coverage.
Square feet to paver units
A 320 ft² patio with an 8 × 4 in effective module needs 320 × 1.10 ÷ (8 × 4 / 144) = 1,584 units at a 10% allowance. At 48 units per pack, buy 33 packs. These dimensions describe the calculation example, not every nominal paver.
Coverage is not a cutting plan
Rounded area quantities assume usable offcuts can contribute to coverage. Borders, angled layouts and narrow paths may need more units. Check edge rows and the repeat of a mixed-size pattern before placing the order.
Subtract only areas that genuinely receive no pavers. The result rounds units first and then packs, showing the full purchased coverage. Estimate bedding sand and base gravel as separate layers using their specified average depths.
FAQ
How do I enter a curved patio? expand_more
Measure the area separately, or split it into rectangles and other shapes, then enter the total square footage.
Are joints included? expand_more
Only if the effective dimensions you enter include the supplier-defined joint module. Confirm the product coverage before ordering.
Does this include edge restraints? expand_more
No. The calculated quantity covers paving units and packs; restraints and other accessories need their own takeoff.
