How it works
Laminate is sold in cartons with a stated square-foot coverage. The calculator applies the allowance for the selected layout, divides by the exact coverage on the carton and rounds up to a purchasable number of packs.
A straight layout starts at a 5% allowance, while diagonal work starts at 15%. Keep the leftover planks for future repairs because product lines and color lots change. Underlayment is shown at the net floor area and should be rounded to the roll size you select.

Use the square feet printed on the carton
Product dimensions and pieces per carton vary, but the carton label already states its total square-foot coverage. Enter that exact figure and the calculator rounds the allowance-adjusted floor area up to a real number of packs.
Purchased coverage will exceed the installation area because partial cartons are not the ordering unit. The difference is useful repair stock, not an arithmetic error.
Layout controls the cutting allowance
The straight profile uses 5%, while diagonal installation uses 15%. Alcoves, many doorways and patterns that force short end pieces can require more even when the main room is rectangular.
Underlayment is shown at net floor area. Add the overlap and roll-width allowance specified by its manufacturer, and do not add a separate pad where the selected laminate already has an attached underlayment unless the installation instructions allow it.

The room is 208 sq ft. A straight layout adds 5%, producing 218.4 sq ft. Divide by 20 and round up: 11 packs with 220 sq ft of purchased coverage.

It shows the net floor area as an underlayment starting point. Round that figure to the selected roll size and its required overlaps, and follow the flooring instructions where a pad is already attached.
